What we do at home
Rekeys, deadbolts, smart locks and repairs, at your door or at the counter in Olathe.
Just moved in
Rekey everything. You have no idea how many copies of that key exist, and neither does the seller. Rekeying keeps your existing hardware and changes what the key has to look like, which costs less than replacing locks.
Deadbolts fitted properly
A deadbolt is only as good as the screws and the strike plate behind it. A lot of doors we see have a solid lock held on by half inch screws into soft trim. We fit the lock and we fix what it is anchored to.
Smart locks
We install and set up electronic and smart locks, and we will tell you honestly which ones we see coming back. A keypad is genuinely useful if you have kids or a dog walker. It is still a lock, and the mechanical part underneath still matters.
When a lock is just tired
Sticking, stiff or worn locks often need repair rather than replacement. We carry parts for common hardware and we will say when a lock is worth saving and when it is not.
Locked out of the house
If you are standing outside your own front door, we come out across Johnson County and open it, usually without damaging the lock. If you can get to the shop on N Ridgeview Rd with proof the house is yours, a fresh key cut at the counter is often quicker and cheaper than a callout. A lockout is also a good moment to rekey, since a door that just locked you out with no spare is a door whose keys you have lost track of.
One key for the whole house
Most houses collect locks that each came with their own key, a different one for the front, the back, the garage side door and the deadbolt somebody added later. We can rekey them so a single key opens all of them, keeping the hardware you already have. It is the small change people are most pleased with afterward, because the drawer full of unlabeled keys finally makes sense.
How a house call goes
What happens from your call to keys that work.
First, you tell us what is going on
Just moved in, a key went missing, or a lock has started fighting you. Most house calls are one of those three, and the answer is a little different for each.
Then, we come to you or you come in
We come to you across Johnson County, or if the hardware comes off the door you can bring it to the counter on N Ridgeview Rd, which is usually quicker and cheaper.
Next, we rekey, fit or repair
We rekey the locks you already have, fit a deadbolt properly into the frame and stud, or repair a tired lock where it is worth saving. We say when it is not.
Finally, you get working keys
You leave with keys that work, and we cut spares while we are there so the whole house can run on one key if that is what you want.
Residential locksmith questions, answered
What people ask before we come out to the house.
Rekey the exterior locks. You cannot know how many copies of the old key exist, and neither can the seller. Rekeying keeps your hardware and changes what the key has to look like, which costs less than new locks.
Usually, yes. We can key the front, back, garage and deadbolt to a single key while keeping the hardware you already have.
Not always. Sticking and stiff locks often just need repair, and we carry parts for common hardware. We will say when a lock is worth saving and when it has reached the end.
Yes. The shop is in Olathe and we cover the rest of Johnson County, including Overland Park, Lenexa, Shawnee, Gardner and Spring Hill.
A real shop behind your door
Your home locks are not the place to find out a locksmith is just a van and a phone number. We are family owned, we work out of a real shop in Olathe, and we check a house is yours before we rekey or open it. We will tell you when a tired lock is worth repairing and when it is not, and we would rather give you the plain answer than the expensive one.
